The ‘Last Chance’ Gala is a massive success for the Club

Yesterday was the jewel in the Hertsmere Flyers crown – the Last Chance ‘No Frills’ Gala. Held at Barnet Copthall, we hosted 200 swimmers and even more supporters. The lure of the elusive County Qualifying Time a swimmer needs (for which our gala is the last open meet to gain an eligible time) makes this gala a big draw. This is what has attracted swimmers from as far south as Woking, Kingston and Sutton and as far east as Bethnal Green and Hackney.  For Hertsmere Flyers there were 69 personal best times, 1 Age Group record broken and 7 new County Qualifying Times. We now have County Qualifying Times in over 100 events! Superb effort all round.

Well done to Jay Munkley who set a new Age Group Record and County Qualifying Time for 50M Breaststroke and a County Qualifying Time for 100M Freestyle. Hannah Newman got her first County Qualifying Time in 50M Backstroke and County Qualifying Times were also achieved by Alicia Slater in 200M Freestyle, 100M Freestyle and 50M Butterfly and Kimia Baradaran in 50M Butterfly.

The following swimmers all knocked over 5 seconds off their Personal Best times:  Daniella Khalastchi (200M Freestyle, 100M Freestyle), Noah Cornwell (200M Freestyle), Adam Martin (200M Freestyle), Eden Kramer (200M Breaststroke) and Tolu Elesin (50M Breaststroke).

The following all achieved their first official times: Rachel Vardy (50M Backstroke, 50M Freestyle, 50M Breaststroke, 100M Freestyle), Talia Slater (100M Breaststroke), Shreyas Pulle (50M Butterfly).

A big thank you must go to all the officials and other volunteers both from Hertsmere Flyers and the other Clubs. Without your help the gala would not have been the success it was.

Go Flyers Go!
