Well, it was back to the Venue for a long week end of swimming, with Hertsmere Flyers swimmers gave it their all.

Saturday – All 50’s and 200’s

The early morning start saw the 50m Breast Stroke and the 200 Freestyle, with Sam, Noah and Tolu up first.

Sam started with a 2s PB in his heat, not quite making the final but moving from 21st to 11th ranked 50m Breast stroker in Hertfordshire. Noah was up next, PB’ing and securing his place in the final, with Tolu swimmign well and making his final too..

On to the 200 Freestyle and Ayur was our first competitor. County Champs is the place to give your best and he delivered a 4s PB in 1;37.2. Noah showed his continued good form with a 3s PB and securing another SILVER medal. Next Josh, with a 1.32s PB and moving from 14th to 12th in the County. Finally Adam was up, going out in 1:00.31 wasn’t quite as fast as he needed and he completed his 200 in 2:04.98, slightly outside his best. He has his Regional time for this event so he has another chance to shie in Norwich.

On to the finals where Noah came in 6th and Tolu was on a mission, racing really hard and deserving his brilliant SILVER medal.

The Second session held the 50 Back and 200 Breast. First up Alicia – producing a great 33.24 and the first Regional Qualifying Swim of the day plus making the final. Chloe, unusualy for her, mistimed her turn, leaving her unable to make a full push off, but still swam within 0.5s of her PB. Unfortunately that wasn’t quite enough to make the final, leaving her in 9th overall, up from her 12th ranking before the champs.Noah was next with another PB, and yet another Regional Qualifying Time. Josh PB’d too in 33.15s, plus made the final.

In the Finals Alicia bettered her PB and came 3rd, securing a BRONZE medal, coming from 12th ranking before the champs. In the other finals Noah was just outside the medals in 4th and Josh came in 8th.

The evening session was all about the 50 Freestyle – heats and finals. The best swim was from Adam – a PB in 25.65s.It’s very difficult for him as he is in the very wide 16 and Over age group – so it’s hard to make finals –  but this improves his Regional ranking, where 16 is an age group by itself.

Sunday

In the 50 Fly Noah again PB’d in both the heats and final, coming 6th overall. Tolu did 31.88s in his heat – only 0.01s off his regional time – but making the final. In the final he went flat out and was clearly tiring towards the end but clocked a 31.87 – exactly on his Regional Qualifying Time.

The 200 Back was next up, with Alicia, Tolu and Josh all producing PB’s in 2:35.59, 2:36.5 and 2:35.94 respectively, all excellent swims.

Sunday afternoon saw the 100 IM and 200 Fly (perhaps the hardest event of all). In the heats Noah Tolu and Josh all made PB’s with Noah and Josh making the final. Noah again PB’d in the final winning yet another SILVER medal in the process, a great swim from him.

Now for the 200 Fly. Alicia didn’t really want to do this, it is a very hard event, but she went out in a 1;17 for the first 100, close to her actual 100m PB, completed it in 2;52.32. A super effort and great end to her County Champs. Adam was our only other 200 Flyer and was looking for a good swim. He went out in 1:06.89 for the first 100m (very fast but in control) and poweered through the remainder to win his heat in a time of 2:24.3, another Regional Qualifying Time and a 4s PB. That left him 9th in the open age group, from his 13th position at the start of the day. Just an outstanding swim.

We now have 22 swims under the qualification times for Regional Championships for 2016. Last year we had 12 and the year before 4. Our swimmers are improving at a fantastic rate – and there are still 2 months before the Regional Window closes. Join them – enter as many galas as you can and enjoy the racing.

Let’s get more Regional Times folks.
