Competitive Levels
All swimmers need a category 1 membership to the ASA to swim in these first set of galas
Interclub Galas:
These are locally arranged events between clubs to introduce swimmers to a gala environment. They often have maximum speed times for events where experienced swimmers would not be eligible to certain events if they were too fast.
Peanuts League:
There are 3 divisions within this group of galas, where each club swims three galas within their respective division. It is for swimmers between 9 years old and under 13 in the year of the events. Any level of swimmer is eligible to swim, but may only swim 2 individual events within their own respective age group. They may however swim up but not down in age group for more individual swims, but may also swim as many relay events as the coach deems appropriate.
Major League:
There are 3 divisions within this group of galas, where each club swims three galas within their respective division. It is for swimmers from 11year old up to open age group swimmers. Any level of swimmer is eligible to swim, but may only swim 2 individual events within their own respective age group. They may however swim up but not down in age group for more individual swims, but may also swim as many relay events as the coach deems appropriate.
For these next set of Galas swimmers need a Category 2 membership to the ASA before being eligible to swim
Open Galas, Level 1 - 4 :
This set of galas can be located at any pool round the country, and run by swimming clubs. Entry is by the swimmers ASA number and accredited personal best swim times meeting the Gala criteria. Each gala sets its own entry criteria, which can be different entry times and age banding.
County Championships incorporating Bagcats/Youth & Championships:
This is a set of galas swum once a year over a selected group of dates. Swimmers can only enter if they have achieved the entry times for their age group at an official gala prior to the entry date for the event.
Regional Championships incorporating Bagcats/Youth & Championships:
This is a set of galas swum once a year over a selected group of dates. Swimmers can only enter if they have achieved the entry times for their age group at an official gala prior to the entry date for the event. It is swum at Norwich sports park swimming pool the Regions nominated 50 meter swimming pool.
National Championships:
This is a set of galas swum once a year over a selected group of dates. Swimmers can only enter if they have achieved the entry times for their age group at an official gala prior to the entry date for the event. It is swum at Sheffield’s PondsForge swimming pool the nationally nominated 50 meter swimming pool.
