Criteria for swimming
Criteria for Advanced Teaching Group:
- 25 metres each Front Crawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke
- 50 metres Front Crawl or Backstroke
- Correct starts, turns and finishes on all three strokes
- Meterage to improve to 600-1000m per hour session
Criteria for Squad 3:
- 50 metres Front Crawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke
- 100 metres Front Crawl or Backstroke
- 25 metres Butterfly
- 100 metres Individual Medley
- Competitive start award
- Correct starts, turns and finishes on all strokes, including takeovers.
- Training equipment required: kickboard, fins, drink bottle
This group should:
- Attend minimum 2 sessions per week (optimum 3-4 sessions).
- Understand lane etiquette, training within a group and rules of the strokes/sport.
- There will be regular time trials and all swimmers will be expected to enter low level competitions.
- Meterage to improve to 1000-2000m per hour session.
Criteria for Squad 2:
- 100 metres Front Crawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke (correct underwater pullouts)
- 200 metres Front Crawl or Backstroke
- 50 metres Butterfly
- 200 metres Individual Medley
- Correct starts, turns and finishes on all strokes, including takeovers.
- Training equipment required: kickboards, pull buoy, fins, drink bottle
This group should:
- Attend minimum 3 sessions per week (optimum 4-5 sessions).
- Understand lane etiquette, training within a group and rules of the strokes/sport.
- There will be regular time trials and all swimmers will be expected to enter low level competitions.
- Keep logbook of training and competition results.
- Self-monitor by using the pace clock.
- Meterage to improve to 1000-2000m per hour session.
- Learn positive and negative splits
Criteria for Squad 1:
- 200 metres Front Crawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke (correct underwater pullouts)
- 400m Front Crawl
- 100 metres Butterfly (with and without fins)
- 200 metres Individual Medley
- Correct starts, turns and finishes on all strokes, including takeovers.
- Training equipment: kickboards, pull buoy, hand paddles, fins, drink bottle
This group should:
- Attend minimum 4 sessions per week (optimum 5 sessions).
- Understand lane etiquette, training within a group and rules of the strokes/sport.
- There will be regular time trials and all swimmers will be expected to enter low level competitions.
- Keep logbook of training and competition results.
- Self-monitor by using the pace clock.
- Monitor progress using swim test sets.
- Meterage to improve to 2500-3000m per hour session.
- Learn positive and negative splits.
Criteria for Top Squad:
- 400 metres Individual Medley
- Timed sets: 10x100FC
- 10x100 IM
- Correct starts, turns and finishes on all strokes, including takeovers.
- Training equipment: kickboards pull buoy, hand paddles, fins, drink bottle,
This group should:
- Attend 5 sessions per week (optimum all sessions)
- Understand lane etiquette, training within a group and rules of the strokes/sport.
- There will be regular time trials and all swimmers will be expected to enter low level competitions.
- Keep logbook of training and competition results.
- Self monitor using the pace clock.
- Test sets to include 200m step set, stroke efficiency and kick/pull.
- Females working on negative splits.
- Males working on even splits.
- Enter approx 12 competitions per year, various level, strokes and distances
- Meterage to improve to 3000-3500m per hour session
