Lane Etiquette
Training Sessions:
- Make sure when you start swimming that you are swimming along the rope in the same direction as the swimmer in the next lane.
- Keep to the allocated side of your lane.
- Unless you are in difficulties do not stop whilst swimming down the length wait till you get to the end.
- If someone is constantly tail gating you allow them to pass at a turn.
- If you choose to overtake down a length make sure no one is coming the other way.
- When lanes are full of swimmers take care when swimming Butterfly not to hit arms with on coming swimmers.
- When leading a set which has specific times for distances with allocated rests please adhere to them so that the other swimmers can achieve the correct session.
- No overtaking in the last 5 meters of a length.
- Be considerate of other swimmers in your lane.
Club, Open, Regional and National Galas:
- Listen out to announcements on which lane to commence your warm up in and the direction of swimming in your lane.
- Diving is not permitted during warm up.
- Do not stop anywhere up the length unless in difficulty.
- Do not obstruct the end of the lane where swimmers would be practicing their turns.
- Take great care over taking during the warm up.
- Listen out for instructions from the officials when to vacate lanes.
- Use of sprint lanes is always one way only.
