Club Championships 2009
On Saturday 19th December 2009 saw the Flyers celebrate the annual club championships and awards. It was an exciting occasion with many of the Club's youngest swimmers competing for the very first time. The swimmers did not disappoint, with 86 personal best swims being notched up and many of the children went home clutching several medals.
The evening saw 2 club records broken by Christopher Cox in the 200m freestyle and Jay Munkley in the 100m free. 8 junior records were broken with Christopher claiming 3, as did Miranda Willis. Jay Munkley, Zoe Munkley and Abigail Smith all broke one apiece.
The awards were given to novice swimmers, Lyla Basu and Ashvin Kuri, as most improved swimmers of the year. The age group awards went to Adam Colyer and Miranda Willis and the youth awards to Christopher Cox and Leanne Fernandes. Peanut certificates were awarded to the entire team and best Peanut swimmer awards given to Adam Colyer and Miranda Willis. The corresponding awards in the Majors went to Adam Colyer and Leanne Fernandes. The annual High Points awards went to 1st Miranda Willis 2nd Adam Colyer and 3rd Michael Fernandes.
The Coach's Award was presented jointly to Adam Colyer and Joe Gray. Adam has had a magnificent year, having won regional medals, broken regional records and also represented the County. The pinnacle of Joe's year came in reaching the British Nationals in 100m breaststroke. Well done to them both!
