Counties 2010: First Weekend

This weekend saw the first races of the 2010 Hertfordshire County Championships.  We had a record number of swimmers competing (19) and they enjoyed some great successes.  They won 8 medals, broke 1 overall club record, 10 junior club records and produced numerous personal best swims.

Adam Colyer (12) won 2 medals – a gold in the 100m breaststroke and a silver in the 100m IM, reinforcing his versatility in all strokes.  Joe Gray (13) also claimed 2 medals in his favoured breaststroke – a gold in the 50m and a bronze in the 100m. Christopher Cox (17) took silver in the 200m backstroke.  Abigail Smith (14) won a silver medal with a gutsy swim in the tough 200m butterfly and a bronze in the 100m fly.  Daniel Schindler (10) collected a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke with an impressive PB.

Abigail Smith also broke her own overall club record in the 100m butterfly.

Junior records were set by several swimmers, some twice over in heats and finals.  They fell to;- Adam Colyer (12 year old 100m breast),  Christopher Cox (17 year old backstroke), Joe Gray (13 year old 50m breast), Abigail Smith (14 year old 100m and 200m fly) and Miranda Willis (11 year old 100m, 400m free and 100m IM).

The bank of regional qualifying times is also growing and further times were achieved by Adam Colyer, Michael Fernandes, Joe Gray and Miranda Willis.

Kimia Baradaran, Georgina Brown, Megan Davies, Rebecca Mackett, Isabella Mattey, Nick Michel, Zoë Munkley, Adam Nash, Ashley Randall, Miran Shah, Chloe Simmons and Maddie Simmons completed the county squad this weekend, swimming personal best times in many of their races.

The county championships continue over the next 2 weekends and we wish our fantastic swimmers further success.
