East Regional Bagcat Championships – weekend 2
This weekend saw the conclusion of the East Regional Bagcat Championships and there were some exceptional performances from our swimmers. 12 year old Joe Gray took a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke in a national qualifying time. He will now swim in the National Age Group Championships in
Adam Colyer continued his impressive form. He won the gold medal in the 100m breaststroke, setting a new East Region record for an 11 year old. He missed a national time (for a 12 year old) by the narrowest of margins – 3/100ths of a second. He did, however, win silver in the 200m breaststroke, in a new junior club record and set a new PB in 200m backstroke. His all-round excellent performances over the 2 weekends won him a full set of medals – one gold, one silver and a bronze and earned him the 6th place overall in the region – an outstanding achievement.
Miranda Willis enjoyed some great success in the freestyle events – swimming the 100m, 200m, and 400m all in new junior club records for 10 year old girls. She also claimed a record in the 100m backstroke. She finished her first regional campaign in a very creditable 22nd place.
Michael Fernandes completed the team, tackling the butterfly events this weekend. He reached the final of the 14 year old boys’ 100m butterfly. He improved both his time and placing from the heats to finish in the 6th place. That swim also confirmed his position as the fastest “flyer” in Hertfordshire for his age. Overall, Michael finished 17th.
Our congratulations to all the swimmers and to Sue for their wonderful achievements and we look forward to Joe’s national debut in July.
